Voices of Youth - Virginia UMCVoices of Youth - VA is a mission choir of high school youth whose primary purpose is to experience United Methodist missions and to share their experiences through music, thereby awakening and challenging local UMC churches and individuals to reach out in mission.
Voices of Youth - VA is sponsored by the General Board of Global Ministries of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Voices of Youth - Awakening the Church to Mission 2008 will be traveling to Brazil to learn about the Virginia Conference partnership with the Methodist Church of Brazil through Initiatives of Hope, and the Shade and Fresh Water project. This three-week experience, July 4 - July 25, 2008, will have its mission phase at Nova Almeida near Vitoria, the capital of the state of Espirito Santo ("Holy Spirit"). Voices of Youth will conduct a performing arts camp for over 100 children.
Adult staff, college staff, and youth are needed for this year's tour. Request an Application. All applications are due by November 15, 2007
Dear Virginia Conference Youth,
I want you to know that your presence, voice, and leadership at our recent Annual Conference was deeply felt. I was so proud of all of you, and each of you, for sharing yourselves, your perspectives, and your convictions with all the delegates.
I am excited about the upcoming Voices of Youth tour to Florida, my home state and Annual Conference. As you form a community and tour, please know that my prayers will accompany you on your journey. I expect I will be called from Florida friends to tell me how great Voices of Youth are in the Virginia Conference - as if I didn't already know!
Blessings on you. Grace and Peace,
Bishop Charlene Kammerer
Bishop of The Virginia Conference
The United Methodist Church
Dear Members of Voices of Youth:
I welcome you to Florida during your tour in 2007. Your visit to places of ministry to migrant workers in south Florida will sensitize you to many of the needs of the migrant workers and to the responsibility of the church to advocate for social justice for its citizens and sojourners.
Your visit will also make you better aware of the issues pertaining to national policies regarding immigration. What you learn in Florida will be directly relevant to the church’s mission in Virginia since there are many immigrants to both states and many of the migrant workers in south Florida work for part of the year on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and in other places in the Old Dominion.
I hope that you will have a wonderful time visiting our state. May the peace of Christ be with you in your journeys and work.
Sincerely,
Tim W. Whitaker
Florida Area Resident Bishop
The United Methodist Church
This is a wonderful opportunity to receive the youth choir from VA who will raise their voices and give witness to the love of Jesus Christ. As Conference Secretary of Global Ministries, and on behalf of Bishop Whitaker, of the Florida Area, we extend a hearty welcome and pray for a rich experience as you meet south Florida youth and experience their hospitality.
When you come again, let us know how we can be of better service to you.
Blessings,
